1946: Pennsylvania Cental Airlines Flight 105 crashes on approach to Birmingham Municiapal Airport in Alabama when the DC-3 goes off the runway into a creek. The three men in the cockpit are killed, but all passengers survive.
1960: A dynamite bomb on National Airlines Flight 2511 explodes while the plane is over Bolivia, North Carolina; the DC-6 goes down and all 34 aboard die. A passenger is suspected of the bombing but the case remains unsolved.
2005: Two Norfolk Southern Railways trains, No. P22 and No. 192, collide in Graniteville, South Carolina; a tank of chlorine carried by 192 ruptures and releases 60 tons of gas. 9 are killed.
