PACIFIC OCEAN (July 10, 2010) Royal Austrailian Navy frigate Warramunga (FFH-152) engages Ex-USS New Orleans (LPH-11) with her 5-inch gun during a surface engagement, subsequently sending her below the surface of the Pacific Ocean at 1809 local time. Ex-USS New Orleans served in the U.S. Navy between 1968 and 1997. The ship was used for high end multi-national target practice during Exercise RIMPAC 2010, being fired upon by Harpoon missiles, laser guided bombs and finally a barrage of naval gun fire from eight ships.
