Destroyed Japanese Transport Ship ca 1942
Below is a well worn little black and white photograph that was brought home from the South Pacific war theater by my father in 1944. He doesn’t even recall if he or someone else was the actual photographer. I had heard many anecdotal accounts of The Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. As I was told, U.S. Navy dive bombers sank this ship during 1942. Now that many years have passed and Googling has become the way to find answers I discovered additional information at http://www.ww2pacific.com/nbgc.html
From the cited link:
Meanwhile the remaining four Japanese transports were run aground to most expeditiously unload 2,000 surviving troops, but their equipment was destroyed with the dawn.
