This Day In Wrecks
1982: Pan Am Flight 759 is struck by a microburst while taking off in a thunderstorm from New Orleans. After losing altitude, the plane, Clipper Defiance, hit a tree line and banked to the left, eventually crashing in the town of Kenner. All 145 people on the 727 were killed as well as 8 more on the ground.
The Times-Picayune did a retrospective on the crash last year.
