This Day In Wrecks
1963: An Aeroflot Tu-124 flying from Tallinn is unable to retract the nose gear after takeoff, but is diverted to Leningrad due to fog for their emergency landing. While circling to burn fuel, the crew attempt to lock the nose gear with a pole and, preoccupied, run out of fuel. The plane ditches in the Neva river with no fatalities and is towed to shore by a tugboat.
Fuck it, we’re landing in the Hudson Neva!
